How This Calculation Works
The unit converter applies standard conversion factors between metric and imperial units across five categories: length, weight, temperature, volume, and speed.
Temperature conversions use the formulas: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. All other conversions use simple multiplication factors.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Confusing fluid ounces and weight ounces. A fluid ounce measures volume; a weight ounce measures mass. They are not interchangeable.
- Forgetting temperature is not proportional. 0°C is not "zero temperature" — it is 32°F and 273.15 K. Doubling Celsius does not double Fahrenheit.
Worked Example
Length: 5 km = 5 × 0.621 = 3.107 miles.
Weight: 70 kg = 70 × 2.205 = 154.3 lbs.
Temperature: 25°C = 25 × 9/5 + 32 = 77°F.
