How This Calculation Works

The calculator divides each product's total price by its quantity to find the price per unit — then compares them side by side. The product with the lower unit price is the better deal.

The savings percentage tells you exactly how much more expensive the other option is, helping you make informed decisions at the store. This works for any unit of measurement: ounces, pounds, grams, kilograms, liters, milliliters, or count.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Mismatched units. Not comparing the same units — comparing price per ounce to price per pound without converting
  • Bigger isn't always cheaper. Assuming bigger is always cheaper — bulk isn't always the better deal, so check the unit price
  • Perishable bulk buys. Ignoring expiration dates on bulk perishable items — a "deal" that goes bad before you use it is no deal at all
